I need a new bag for my TR1. I’ve got a neoprene slipcase and now need a ‘proper’ case to put it in and have room for a days worth of essentials. I like the look of the Waterfield RacerX (smallest version for 12” Apple) but I’d like some reassurance before I buy one.

All the posts I’ve read about Waterfield sleeves have been positive and I’ve searched for RacerX posts but there’s nothing available.

Has anyone seen and/or used a small Waterfield RacerX and can give me some feedback on how practical they found it?

I use the RacerX case (the small and the medium size).  I love them both.  I put my TR in the sleeve and it fits great into the RacerX.  Typical quality construction from WaterField.  I use the larger case when I want to carry more accessories.

Just to make your life more difficult, I’m using this TUMI bag for daily use….. slightly more expensive, but has some wonderful features…..holds the TR well.

maybe its too bulky but has anyone considered the WaterField Small Cargo Case? 

I got my racer x day before yesterday. IT IS GREAT. It carries much more stuff then you will actually imagine. Very handy and small.

Good to hear you think it’s great. Did you buy the smallest size and just how much stuff can you get into it?  I’d like to carry an A5 notepad (210x150mm) and a paperback novel plus the usual stuff like cell phone, keys, wallet, passport.

I’m trying hard to make a reasoned purchase rather surrendering to the fact the bag looks lovely and I want to own one.

Yes I did buy the smallest size and all your gadgets will fit nice and neatly inot it. I have my adaptor cell phone with adaptor, sony viao mouse and a lot of accessories cables etc etc. Also a letter pad and some misc items like pens pencils measuring tapes etc.
There is no pen holder but still you can hold the pen in one of the elastic bands. Really suites my TR%

Thanks for the help. I’ve finally made a decision and ordered a small RacerX. Can’t wait to get it.

BTW - Brenthaven www.brenthaven.com and the Apple stores UK & USA sell a range of affordable bags by Brenthaven to go with the 12 inch powerbooks. I’ve had a Brenthaven Backpack for the past few years and it’s extremely well made and still looks like new. I only replaced it because it’s designed for full-size laptops and I fancy something different. Can’t vouch for the Apple specific ones and whether they fit the TR.

Anyone with a big laptop who wants to buy my Brenthaven, happy to come to an arrangement.

Got the 12” racerX yesterday,  great product. TR fits perfectly and there’s room for ac adapter, mouse, CDs, cell phone, glasses and stuff. Extra cables, memory stick, pen drives can be store in the gearpouch. Waterfield has improved the cover of the accessory compartment by adding a hard plastic (following suggestion of a previous review shown in this thread).

Ah, one more for the wishlist. I’m really happy with my WF slipcase/gearpouch but every once in a while I’d like to pack a bit more.

Every once in a while I’ve come close. The TR is the most “fun” computer I’ve ever owned. My 1990 Mazda Miata is the most enjoyable car I’ve ever owned. Neither is overpowered, but both perform well and there’s something elegant in their simplicity.

thats interesting to me, as when i was a corporate zombie i too also had a miata, and considered it a design acheivement par excellance, just like the TR. 

as for cases, i use a timbuk2 slipcase that matches my messenger bag.  it works great as a standalone carrier (handles) and the tr fits perfectally with a little room at the top for the charger or a travel mouse. its even silvery/beige. love it.

I’ve accumulated or gone through a lot of toys but few are more than passing memories. I loved my ‘86 T-Bird Turbo Coupe. The Acura 3.2 SL/S 6-speed manual I’m driving now is nice but in a few years it will be just another car I’ve owned… 

One of these days the three of us; the Miata, TR & I are going to hit some mountain roads and give the GPS a workout.
