New Sony VAIO Z Review Posted!

Hello forum members! Sorry I’ve been absent for such a long time. I’ve been here lurking just to check on things but life has been busy and I haven’t been able to devote as much time to the site. Things have changed recently giving me more time to come back and be more active. The first thing I’ve done is review Sony’s new replacement for the SZ, or at least the premium SZs.

Just in case you don’t visit the main siliconpopculture.com site, I’ve just reviewed Sony Ericsson’s W850i Walkman Phone. It’s a GSM/3G phone that’s full of features and is actually one good Walkman!

This has probably been answered somewhere before but i’ve been out of the vaio loop lately and just got back into it. Are the talkvaio forums dead? I thought i’d check here seeing as how i learned how to add bluetooth to my old s-230 from this site.

Sorry for any confusion this morning. The site was down for some background maintenance and security fixes.

I realized why the spam attacks were happening so easily. In the last update, the visual confirmation code was accidentally removed from the code allowing spam bots to post guest messages with ease. I’ve fixed where a guest must enter in the visual confirmation to post. This should also force members to log-in so they don’t have to hassle with the confirmation.

I decided to yank all of the DAP stuff out of the general since we have some reasonable threads on this stuff. So, if you’re going to post anything related then please use the new category. I’m probably not going to create subdivisions for brand or device since there are plenty of other sites for most devices. As always, your feedback is welcome.

I’m terribly sorry for the outage and weirdness over the last 24 hours. My ISP’s network went down and when they brought the systems back online, the system clock on some of the servers were wrong….like, 2 years wrong. For whatever reason, nobody bothered to check to make sure the servers where fully operational so I had to nag at them to fix the problem.

It looks like everything is now fine and I thank you for your patience.

I’m on hiatus…

Just a quick note that I’ll be away for a bit again but will be checking in periodically when I can.

Unfortunately, my mother suffered a stroke this past weekend and I will be busy tending to family matters. Luckily, it wasn’t a severe stroke and my mother still has relative mobility and no apparent paralysis; however, she’s not the same and only time will tell if she will recover.

I’m back from Japan…

Yes, I’m back from Japan and am still jetlagged. I had lots of fun though and the performance was pretty good as well. I also had the pleasure of teaching a class as well.

Unfortunately, my time was so booked during the trip that I didn’t have very much time in Akihabara. I did get my new MZ-RH10 MiniDisc player/recorder though and it’s “nearly” everything I expected it to be. I’m mostly happy although now I’m having buyers remorse for not buying the “orange” colored model and stayed safe with the silver model. I may have to bug a friend to get me an orange and ebay off the silver one…but that can wait.

One of my friends living in Japan took me and my friends to some interesting places incluiding a Cosplay Cafe (where the waitresses dress up in fetish costumes) and one of those places where you can buy girl’s used underwear. Oddly enough (or not), these places were also in Akihabara next to shops carrying the coolest computer accessories you could get.

Well, now that I’m back, I’ll be trying to get back to normal with some reviews (I’m writing some for here and one for Designtechnica) before my schedule gets very hectic next month.

Forum software updated: More security, I hope.

The forum software has been updated to the latest release of PHPBB. It should make it a little bit hardier against some of the attacks we’ve been having recently. Since I still allow anonymous posting, we’ll still be vulnerable to a point but I’ll figure something out regarding anonymous posting in the near future.

There is a little bit of weirdness with some of the dates. Don’t worry about that as it will sort itself out in a few days.
