The better battery life probably accounts for the slightly larger size, which is a bit too big for my liking. I had a first generation iPod and thought it was nice but a tad too thick, and the iPod Photo is almost as big.

The Special Edition U2 iPod is something one of my friends at work ordered as soon as it was announced. I’m not a huge U2 fan, but the online downloadable set of all their songs ever released for $100 seems pretty sweet.

Why the anti apple sentiment?

If we wanted function over form, I’m sure none of us would have bought a TR.  We need the likes of apple and bang and olufsen to push the envelope of design. 

Otherwise what’s the betting the first mp3 player would have been beige?

Agreed. It surprises me as well, especially since some members here have mentioned liking the TR’s looks for its being so close to a Powerbook, and many even customising WinXP with as many apple-like functions as possible.

not me, i never customize my winxp to apple os.  apple os is confusing, basically apple sucks.  if apple is that great, why do they only have ~10% of the market? the rest are intel/amd based with winxp.  that shows something.

It would have something to do with pro applications vs. home usage. Think of Beta vs. VHS, where Beta is the better pro format and most certainly has a market share of under 10% compared to VHS which is the consumer format. I don’t believe you can judge something’s value by its market share alone. If that were the case, many more people would own TR’s…

There was once an AD of new BMW’s on a trailer about to be delivered…the only problem was the truck had a huge Mercedes logo on it…I don’t remeber the story behind it, but it was pretty funny.

I wonder if this was a mistake or done on purpose.

Not to be outdone, Gateway just annonced their color Mp3 player…does basically the same as the iPod but allows you to transfer your pictures from a camera to the device…and it has a removable battery…$250…4GB.

I still don’t see the point of an iPod photo.  Who really cares about pictures on their iPod? or any other damn music device? It’s a music device for crying out loud.  Make the iPod video already!
