Looks like a winner and it seems like it displays album covers as well…looks like a coveted Christmas wish item…I may have to succumb and get one of these things now.
The best news I see out of this is that Toshiba’s 1.8” 60GB drive is in production. Hopefully we will see them for sale soon so we can upgrade our TR hard drives!
However, as a picture viewer, 220x176 is hardly anything to get excited over.
I wouldn’t mind upgrading my ‘pod to a color screen though
[quote author=“gAmEs0n”][quote author=“Anonymous”]until it plays back video also and becomes a true multimedia device, i see this as almost pointless (for me).
I’m still not entirely sold on video players just yet. I think video will be the killer feature…but only if it’s implemented correctly.
I see the iPod photo as more of an enhanced audio player with a nice color screen for CD covers (which is all I’d use it for). Well, I’d also use it to download pictures directly to the iPod but alas, it doesn’t support such a feature directly. Yes, I know about the Belkin device but that’s yet another thing to have to carry.
Audio is much less complicated than video. At least in audio, despite all the competing formats, everyone can agree that MP3 is the standard and all devices must have this to have a chance at succeeding. In video, that one standard isn’t so clear. MPEG-4 is obviously the most logical choice right now although there are still new stanards evolving (i.e. H.264). However, with QT, WMV, and DivX and other MPEG-2/4 variants it’s a much cloudier issue in terms of support.
but if apple does their magic with video as they did with their ipod music, they’ll set a pretty good market and possibly standard for the next few years…
i totally agree 100%. what’s the point of ipod color if they downsampled the pictures and no card slot available to load up pictures? totally useless. so if u want to share it with someone, you are giving a downsampled pictures, instead of originals. ipod should, or must, store the originals and when display it in ipod screen, downsized them, so owners can share pictures (files), not just looking at them
the BIG thing here isnt that the ipod now displays photos, its that now its in colour!
i mean imagine their whole ui in colour
i mean sure it can display pictures too, but thats just an added bonus.
i mean who can go back to b&w after colour?
i’m guessing the “photo” was added to give it some pizzaz.
apple should just call it what it is.
i mean how many of us are already calling it the ipod color?

Wait until this ‘color’ LCD sucks battery life away. People complain at greyscale…I can’t wait to hear them bitch about this one’s battery life with the LCD on.
