Sony HMP-A1 driver & software trouble

Hi !

I’ve found back my old Sony HMP-A1 media player, wich I think is still a pretty cool device, but unfortunately I can’t use it as a PMP anymore because it is only recognize as a hard drive by Windows XP. I’ve search the net over and over and it seems impossible now to found a proper driver or some software to upload music on it.

I’ve try to install HMP Image Transfer Manager (that I’ve found on Sony Japan) on my PC, but as the HMP-A1 icon doesn’t appear on the “My Computer” screen, the installation is terminated before the end.

Could anyone here help me, please ?

Hi vaio freak i need your assistance and i wish that you would help me out recently i just purchase a vgf-ap1 to my disgust its in japanese firmware is there any way to change the firmware ;i try downloadinga firmware update but i cant get it to work as i can find the settings but which is the number seq after that before or after the gsensor settings? or i need another firmware?

Using the autorun trick, you can easily customize the devices you connect to your Windows XP system so that they’re more descriptive than Removeable Device in your Windows Explorer. So, for example you can have something like the following:

Yes, those devices are all actually connected simultaneously. I would have connected more devices if I had more devices and if I had more USB ports. I simply ran out of ports! (VAIO S + Port Replicator)... :shock:

Device list:

VAIO Pocket - Nice and clean. No variations.

Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) - including two black versions, one horizontal and diagonal.

iPod Nano - including both black and white versions.

Sony Network Walkman NW-E/Axxx Series - only the emerald/green version for now.

Sony Hi-MD MZ-RH10 Minidisc Player - only the silver version currently.

Simply download and unzip into the root directory of your corresponding device. You can use any text editor to edit the autorun.inf file to change the labels to your liking or to use an alternative set of icons.

It should unpack files in the following manner:

autorun.inf
ICONname_of_device.ico

In some cases there are more than one icon set if i have color variations. All icon sets have 16x16, 24x24, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 96x96, and 128x128 sizes so it should look pretty good on most systems.

More devices to come when I get some free time or if people ask.
