Just got a U3 & anyone know where I can get the BIOS?

Just got my own PCG-U3 after wanting one for so long. The laptop is awesome but after taking it apart ... 1.8” hard drive :/ heh can’t use that extra 120gb 2.5” one I have.

Oh anybody know where I could get the BIOS? Mine has a password on the BIOS I want to flash the BIOS to get rid of it.

So I decided to sell my Sony Vaio UX180P Micro PC.

The computer is great, I’ve used it as my main computer. It’s definitely a big conversation piece, people have mistaken it for a cell phone, at first they said thats one big cell phone, but when I tell them it’s a full computer, they said what! Thats one small computer. I’ve used it for my carry along PC for my Photography which worked great. And when I needed to check something online, I could just take it out, search it real quick and be done. Plus, sitting on the couch watching TV and browsing on a laptop thats only 1lb is awesome.

Anyways I’ve decided to sell it, because, well just because! Everyone knows me as the Sony gadget guy, so I’ll be looking for another Sony Vaio. Preferably a Sony Vaio T Series or TX Series. So if you have one, want to consider a trade? Anyways, below is specs on the computer and tons of pictures. yippee! ive finally got my u101!

well after waiting ages for my u101 to get through customs from the us i got it, with ddrw2 and extended battery! i now have it up and running with WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE!! and i am pleased to say it seems to deal with it quite well (except for aero). i can open ie, windows media player, and watch a movie easily with barely a frame skipped. but then again this u101 was upgraded to 40gb and ram to 512mb! and amazingly i only paid $550 for the whole package! will post some pics soon

I saw the exchange rate and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy some Japanese tech. Since I sold all my subnotebooks recently and am lugging around a 2.3kg brick of a powerbook I thought i’d go for something l;ight and small, and cheap. So I picked up a Vaio PCG-U3. These are the best value and bang for the buck IMHO at the moment. approx $700AU and you get 820grams, 30GB HDD, 512MB Ram, Windows XP, tiny form factor.

My one is coming with a perfect standard battery, an extra large capacity battery (good for 7 hours of real use), USB 2.0 pcmcia card, 54mbps wireless card and some other bits and pieces.

U1 Pre sales questions

I am about the buy a Vaio PCG-U1 laptop.

I had a C1VRX/K and currently a TR3/SP, and now looking into getting the U1 for its unique size. I would like to ask a couple of questions about it.

How hard is typing on the U1? I am pretty tall with big hands, but with the C1 I really had no troule typing. How much smaller is the keyboard on the U1? The keys seems to have been shuffled around with, and looks like a smart arrangement. I mean is that the Q and P letters are both almost at the edge of the laptop, which means the regular keys are extended to the full width of the laptop, which isnt too bad. I was looking at pictures which compare the two laptops C1 and U1 to see how much of a difference there is, but I cannot see too much. Here is a picture for example:

How is the screen? If you look at it from a normal distance, your eye can take it? The 6,4 seems rather small. I can imagine if you hold it with two hands, close to your eyes like a mobile phone, there should be no problem, but how about when the laptop is on the desk and you are sitting in front?

How is overall performance? I had a crusoe 667 in a C1, it wasnt that bad, but definetally not enough for XP

What accessories do you use or recommend for the U1? Any nice bags?

Sony UX, Rear antenna for WWAN or WLAN?

I’ve looked up a couple of places, and none let me know what the rear Antenna helped. Is it for the WWAN/Cingular Service, or is it for Wireless Lan, or is it both?
