I blogged about my Debian/GNU Linux installation:

In short it was a success - everything is working really well, and I’m damned happy to be using Linux on this sweet machine grin

That’s way beyond the scope of me explaining it on the forums.  I recommend you go to the Debian homepage and start reading their documentation.  It’s quite good and should be able to walk you through the process:
