If you can make do with 16gb in your TR, (and I have for the past year), then this is pretty good value at AU $110.00

Type or copy & paste item number 300252620373 into eBay search

I disc clean every 3 months and have the previous HDD (an Hitachi 60gb) in a USB caddy with all my music . videos etc on it

with all the software I need on my TR i have about 4GB to 5GB space left

Note if you have an Hitachi HDD you’ll need the Toshibia connector & cage to fit it, If you have a Toshibia HDD you are good to go with SSD.

You are reading my mind once again BladeRunner! I actually have been watching this seller for quite some time now. His pricing has dropped consistently on the 16GB SSD. At the price you mentioned, I contacted him for a shipping quote. For me, it is $76 for S&H;.

I have decided I will buy a 16GB SSD instead of 32GB SSD because it is much cheaper. Although, there was a person who bot a 10 - 20 lot of 32GB SSD and is now selling them on Ebay for Buy It Now of $350, pretty decent price.

Anyway, with the programs and all the updates I have on my computer, I am only using 9 - 10GB of space. I quit keeping my files on the actual computer itself a long time ago and especially now in light of the inspection policies at country borders. Easier to slip a thumb drive with it all than them look at your laptop with everything.

I will be buying from this guy on Ebay in about a month smile

Yeah the the 32gb is not bad but by the time shipping is added to the UK it’s going to be £200 ($400) with customs charges. I don’t see them getting much cheaper myself due to availability, maybe the 32gb will drop to $200 but not sure how long they will still be made. In fact are Samsung still making them or has production moved to more profitable 64gb + sata versions?

There was a batch of 64gb 50 pin Samsungs but I never saw any for sale, so it looks like 32gb or 16gb and if you can get by with 16gb the extra space will only be filled with crap anyway at significantly more cost…

Also worth setting a search reminder on eBay for Samsung SSD and similar, about a month ago I missed a 2.5” 32b Samsung SSD, (that I use in my desktop PC’s), that went for £20 !! yes that’s $40

I’m guessing the person selling it obviously didn’t know what it was, had upgraded their laptop hdd to a bigger standard one, and simply looked at prices for a standard 20gb hdd. I did the buy-it-now but got the message it was no longer available… someone just beat me to it.. damn.. kicking myself for missing that one

I also don’t see the 32GB getting much cheaper either and to me, it seems they will always be in high demand. Unless Samsung cranks out a HUGE batch of them, I think $350 will be the norm. I don’t know if Samsung is still making the 32GB or not, but they are flooding the market with 64GB - both SATA and the 2.5” sizes. It seems to me those are cheaper than the 32GB 1.8” we need for ours :(

$40 - I don’t even want to hear such a price for one smile I usually check everyday for Samsung and that would have really made me mad for missing it smile Would have been nice if you got it BladeRunner! You are probably right, the person didn’t know what they had or just didn’t care.

16GB will be enough for me. My current setup uses 10GB and I keep all data off the laptop anyway. I have removed a lot of programs I really don’t need and should I ever really need them, I will just install them on my desktop.

Woohoo! I FINALLY got one of the SSD drives! I bought the 16GB instead of the 32GB since I never have anything above 11GB used on my laptop anyway.

I got it for $150 + $8 S&H;on Ebay. This will work perfectly because by the time it arrives, my 802.11B/G/N card will have arrived.

I will be sure to install both, reload the OS and give feedback on my individual results. Man, I can’t wait for the speed and to get rid of my loud drive!

not bad I paid double that, (shipped to uk a year ago for my 16 gb), and I just looked now total size 15.2gb - free space 5.58gb so16gb has served my TR1MP fine, yes it would be nice to have a 64gb and fill it full of crap, but at least 16gb makes you keep the TR tidy -;

Yea, I remember what you paid for your BladeRunner. I have been “hunting” now for about 2 months fairly aggressively and finally found a fair deal smile

You’re right. Keeping the size down does that. I have eliminated so many programs I don’t use or are WAY too big to perform a job that smaller, more efficient programs can do.

Not to mention since you already had a 16GB and it has been great for you, I looked at my total size used and was pleasantly surprised. Thanks for the help on that one!

Now all I need to do is get me the Sony MicroVault Tiny in 16GB size (I already have a 2GB size). With virtual expansion capable of 3x the storage, I can have close to 50GB of storage capability on a flash drive that is a little larger than a quarter and easy to hide!
