Overclocking the X505 is stupid. The X505 has little extra cooling capacity, it’s hot enough as it is. Futhermore, overclocking might shorten the lifespan of the components used. It drains the battery faster. And it’s completely useless, because who uses it for gaming anyway?

Eitherway, I did find a way to overclock it with noticable results!! I haven’t found a way to change the FSB, multiplier or anything, but there is a program called memset 3.5, that can change latencies of the memory! From my long overclocking career, I knew that lowering the CAS-latency with 0.5 can easily have an effect of as much as 10% on the memory performance. I also know that the main bottleneck for 3D-stuff on the X505 is the speed of the shared video-memory. So I changed the CAS-latency from 2.5 to 2, et voila: Quake 3 went from a timedemo with 53.0 fps to 58.9 fps! Exactly the little boost I needed, because Q3 runs just good enough, with 16bit colours =D

In CounterStrike 1.6 it made an even bigger difference.

I thought this topic was a question when first say the title and was going to post here that overclocking the x505 is both stupid and practically impossible… apparently not, congradulations.  I’d be curious, what, if any diffrence in temperatures there are.

I don’t have a temp-monitor installed unfortunately. And I can’t feel the difference between crazy hot and fucking hot, which is the temp it usually reaches when I play Quake or CounterStrike ;+)
