do microsoft office (excel, word, powerpoint, etc) are included in the microsoft office XP professional CD? or do i need to get it separately?

Microsoft Office is a separate product.  Retail editions of Windows XP do not include Microsoft Office.

Some OEMs (including Sony) bundle trial editions of Office with their pre-installed software.  Office is functional for a periond, after which you need to purchase a license to continue using it.
