My S260P is on the fritz…it’s got the standard S series problem now after 2+ years of use.  The common problem of the solder joints on the motherboard around the video chip are flaking out and the laptop shuts down w/ the slightest bit of movement.

For me, it’s not worth repairing.  I contacted a vaiovillage member named smdbios (Joe) at http://www.aqstech.com/ and he seems to think it is likely the same problem.  This repair runs around $200, +shipping to and from his shop.  His company has made this repair to numerous S models over the years, so I think he knows the units pretty well.

I have not attempted to repair it and have no intentions to do so.

If anyone is interested in parts or the entire unit, you can make me an offer.  I’m also going to post this same information over at vaiovillage for anyone there that might be interested.

PM me if you are interested…

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

I am Moonrock, please see above, I think I might have the same problem with my vaio SX5XP/B model.

I have in the past managed to rescue a few motherboards, but I do not know how to dis assemble the laptop without breaking it, if you have any idea how to do it or anyone you know might help me, I would be grateful for the input and if I can fix mine, I might consider buying yours too!

Kind regards

Moonrock

I really don’t know how to go much deeper into disassembling this unit beyond changing the harddrive.  I had to take it apart for that, which involves removing all the screws on the bottom where there are arrows as well as another screw under the memory/wifi cover on the bottom.  From there, the keyboard pops up and comes loose, then a series of screws under the keyboard will allow you to remove the cover and palmrest/touchpad.  At that point, you can see the motherboard, but how to continue removing stuff in order to get it out for a repair, not a clue.

Good luck if you do attempt it, more than I care to tackle.
