Well it is a business sideline, I have cherry picked a mint one of each over time for my own use all the UK models, a TR1mp (shown open and working in images), a TR2mp in the car & a TR5mp at home (both not shown in images).

The Tr1mp has the SSD hdd and all 3 have UVC11a’s fitted and working.. all others in images are in various states of flux between fixing to sell complete, or breaking for parts.

BTW did you want that Vaio b3pt battery case? Ideally I’d like your old damaged one because the cells are still useable, and with the old case it can be fixed well enough to be used in the workshop to test, doesn’t matter if it’s not pretty. Check your battery topic for the update if you haven’t yet, I got it apart without damage.

Thanks for the reminder on the battery. I replied to that post for you.

You have inspired me to look for more TRs. On a slightly different note, once I begin to put my TR back together after paint and an SSD drive, I will be installing Apple OS X on it. Anyway, that is way off subject.

Thanks for the pictures of your work area!

Good Screens are like rocking horse shit, and I’m always struggling to find them at decent prices. Any you see on the bench are cracked and kept for cold cathode back lights (I usually ship the cold cathode in the broken screen if possible because they are so delicate).

Not wishing to go off on a political tangent, but it needs mentioning.. the other problem is arguably caused by george dubba bush sabre waggling around the globe.. to why the dollar is so weak.. currently it’s over 2 dollars to the pound so while I’ll always try to give good prices I’m not willing to give stuff away..

Roughly what you would pay $1 for we pay £1 for, but for $100 you’d get £50 which ultimately means buying anything from the UK will seem very expensive to you, and not enough for me. If I had a good screen to sell I’d get at least £200 for it on ebay (which equates to well over $400 US at the moment with shipping..)

Thanks for your reply - that is actually very helpful because I’ve been trying to decide whether just to buy a new screen (450USD) or buy a used TR (and have the extra parts and pieces…). I live in Canada so we’re enjoying the benefit of the weak dollar at present.

Again, I appreciate your response - I am still struggling with the fix or buy a new UX280 decision…

Be nice if location was compulsory in the forums, it would help as forums all tend to be quite global nowadays, anyhow like Will Smith says in I Robot I can be the “dumbest smart person” I know sometimes… your username should have given me a big clue.. oh well smile

Anyhow if you like TR and the it’s not CPU limited for your uses it has plenty of life left especially with SDD hdd’s that simply must get far cheaper as time goes on.. It really depends on what you can find price wise I guess

I found a place that can get a used sony screen for $200 CDN (new LCD from Sony Parts is $449) - he checked but can’t guarantee it is xbrite. Would you go new or used?

Seems a good price (it’s about £100 UK)

type or copy & paste below number into eBay search

140173301758

or LQ106K1LA01 all made by Sharp

if he can confirm this it will be the right one for TR

later ones LQ106K1LA02 are in T1xp / T2xp but work fine in TR. I think the LQ106K1LA01 are preferable because there were some bad ones in T1 / T2 series. White spots and other problems (not had or seen one but I think there is talk of it in the T forums..)

you can’t use screen from the TX series (it’s bigger)

If it is right one emphasise the packaging (I’ve had two screens damaged in shipping because the sender didn’t package well enough), they are very delicate when not in the notebook lid / cover

*EDIT*

White Spot issue is TX not TR / T

He’s installing it for me, so the packaging etc., will be taken care of! I’m assuming that the others won’t fit at all so I shouldn’t worry? Are the sharp and t1/t2 all xbrite? (I’m hoping that the screens that fit the TR will all be xbrite - is that correct???)

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

Yeah TR / T1 T2 are the same apart from the revision number, well at least I’ve used screens from T1 in TR without issue and I can’t see any difference between LQ106K1LA01 & LQ106K1LA02, not from a users point of view anyway.

Funny thing was the first T1xp I got, (with the common rebooting issue), the screen looked poorer quality like it was suffering from to much gamma. When I fitted it in a TR it was fine so it must be poorer graphics on T series, or to do with the fault. Not isolated either because I just got another T1xp in yesterday and it’s the same with the gamma.

Anyhow as far as I know the sharp is the only screen that will fit, (it’s definitely the only one that is fitted as standard), and they are all X-brite or X-black. This is talking from my own experience so I could be wrong, but I’ve not come across another screen type for TR / T..

Might be worth double checking the Sharp part number(s) with him first to save shipping it to him and finding he only has TX type screen..
