TR5MP- Will Not Start!!!

I brought a Sony Vaio TR5MP laptop in 2004 and since then it has been absolutly fine, apart from the motion eye camera not working.

I went to turn it on yesturday morning, but the “on” button didnt work. I have checked the charger and cable and that is working, as the light on the end of the cable is lit.

I have spoken to Sony and they have told me it costs £140 for them to look at it and diagnose the problem!

Does anyone know what is wrong with it!? What I can do to fix it?!??
