Hi everyone,

it’s been a few weeks now that I follow this forum because I also experienced the problem of my combo drive not being able to recognize DVD :?
I saw a few posts mentioning that the original drive (UJ-745 I think) could be replaced by a DVD-writer UJ-822B and wanted to do the same.

I found one on ebay and installed it in my TR1MP, but it is not recognized in the BIOS (although the led is working and I can open him and hear my CD spinning). I removed it and reinstall it a few times but without success, so I had to put back the original drive (which was directly recognized).
According to the ebay-seller, I should upgrade my BIOS/firmware but I couldn’t find any new BIOS release for my vaio

Did someone also experienced this problem?

Thank you very much for your help

PS: sorry for my bad English

Hi all,

I just received a reply from the seller:

Hello!
The drive assembly is adjusted to master!
The problem is, which unfortunately not all Notebooks recognize masters of drive assemblies.

if I understand correctly, the DVD drive is set to “Master” and this makes conflict with the HDD which is also “Master”.
Is there a way to avoid this? Maybe a jumper to change on the HDD or on the Motherboard?

Thanks for your help

You could set your hard disk to slave (with jumpers).
