They even have the SZ381 with carbon fiber weave:

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start?CategoryName=cpu_VAIONotebookComputers_SZSeries&Dept=computers

DVD burner speeds are still 4X

No Bluetooth 2.0

Memory sticks still 533 Mhz

Same Nvidia 7400

Is Merom the only change here besides the 160 Gig HD in the SZ381?

Don’t get me wrong, its probably the lightest 13” out there with dedicated graphics, but still, a few more perks would have been nice.

I’d like to get the Premium Edition at the fastest available processor speed for the Cuo 2 Duo. But it seems that Sonystyle is only listing the Premium Edition, at 2.16 Ghz CPU speed.

From past releases of premium SZ editions, will they begin to offer them at the higher CPU speed (2.33Ghz) later?

Wow; the 2.33 would be what; $350 more than the 2.16? Bringing it to at least maybe $3550? I can’t justify that much laptop with only a Geforce 7400, but I could see the 2.16 as a possibility. But I can’t say when the premiums will get the 2.33, although it is available with the SZ340. I would get the 2.33 screamer chip with the SZ340 but I am worried about build quality of non-premiums-

-Please if you can answer me this: are the non premiums more fragile? Some are complaining of the paint rubbing off certain parts, maybe the edges, as well as flimsy materials. Are they refering to the non premiums?
Others say their SZ non premiums are OK...? Guess tomorrow I might run down to CompUSA and see if there are any Premiums on display beside the non premiums.

Right now I am on hold to see what Apple has up its sleeve Sept 12th. If there are no significant changes in the Macbook or Macbook Pro then I may get the SZ340 with 2.33 Ghz or the SZ381. Too bad the Macbook has no dedicated GPU; it may be heavier but that is on tightly built, SOLID feeling laptop; almost feels metallic...and so rigid too. Why can’t PC laptops feel like that? I dunno. Well enough ranting.

The color scheme of the non-premium kinda suck.
I don’t like the silver and black. But I got to thinking that
it is Sony’s way of differentiating their notebook from the
All black color scheme of the other manufacturers.

So I just want the fastest process with minimum HD and memory. I’m gonna buy that separately for a cheaper price. Is this the way everyone else is going about this?
