How do we get around the check that Sony VAIO programs initiate during installation. I used to have success leaving the message box up that says not intended for this computer and sneaking into the temp file and copy/paste the contents. That method doesn’t seem to work any longer, what does the mainstream use?

Sony USA has gotten wise to the workaround practice and is using a new installer that keeps everything in memory while doing the system check before extracting any files.

I’ve been looking for a way to circumvent this but it’s not easy. I’ll let you know if I can find a way around it.

I think it just so easy. Look up file Model.txt in Windows folder, you will see what model number of your system is being installed. Just change it to match model of the utility you are installing, everything will be okay. Remember, you should save file model.txt before you click button that will show a dialog “This ........ is not intented for use with your computer model”
Good luck.

This doesn’t work with all of the programs that Sony distributes especially with the ones from the US support site.

There are WISE extractors, HWUN is one of them:
I have tried it on one file from US support site, which worked sucessfully.

Snip from the INSTALL_INI file that where inside the installation .exe package:
———————————-
[SUPPORT_OS]
Win2K = 0
WinXP = 1

[SUPPORT_LANGUAGES]
US_ENGLISH = 1
LATIN = 0
FRENCH = 0

[SUPPORT_MODELS]
0 = VGN-TX6
NUM_SUPPORT_MODELS = 1

[SERIAL_NUM_RANGE]
USE_SERIAL_NUM_CHECK = N
LOW_SERIAL_NUM =
HIGH_SERIAL_NUM =
———————————————————

Obviously the program can check several factors.

Extracting the WISE archive probably solves the problem until they change the packaging system.

I dont think so, except package will not suitable for your system.
Just give them a try with newest installation web package.
I will try and let you know.
