Well, I had a smurf attack for 3 days on my little home dlink router and something must have gave way, as my Tr lost all it’s net shares and started spitting blood. So now I have to reinstall Win XP on all the machines behind my holy firewall and I am downloading SP3 for the TR3. has anyone done that yet here?  Any advice would be helpful, like pointers to instructions and drivers.

My little TR looks so pathetic sitting there with it’s hood open waiting for the boys to rebuild the fan and for me to figure out what i did to the touchpad, and it’s netcable just hanging out like a dogs tail.

But its running ok on the old ipod harddrive, but I am so sick of XP home I hope I never write home about it again.

thanks all!!!

I remember reading a very long time ago think somewhere on sony’s website that the SP3 skrews up the TR3A for some reason forgot why. If i am wrong please tell me. If i were you and only install up to SP2 and never SP3 or SP4. Even if it doesn’t, maybe Micrsoft fixed it but I wouldn’t risk it.

Good luck,

There is NO Windows XP Service Pack 3!!  :x I would be extremely careful if you’re downloading something called XP SP3 as it’s probably something bad for your computer.

The current service pack is at 2. There will be a Service Pack 3 sometime in 2007 but that’s a long ways out. In the meantime there are a multitude of post-SP2 fixes available.

read lots of stuff about issues with SP2, even went through the list of programs that might have problems and laughed when i saw this icluded microsoft office - didn’t these guys talk when they were releasing?!

But that said none of my computers have ever missed a beat when i’ve put SP2 on.

Hi Groove, its me GPofMiruba, I can’t log in as I changed my address, ran verification, but no go.  Anyway, there are hundreds of fools downloading the same torrent, perhaps we on to somethingl.  I suspect the download is this: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Windows-XP-Service-Pack-3-Preview.shtml don’t know.

As the TR is a lab rat now I thought I’d try it and see what happens, unless someone here has already and failed.

Thanksall!

I would stay away from this “version”. The reason is that some of the updates contained within it aren’t necessarily for general use. That’s why Microsoft hasn’t released them into public yet because they may only fix specific problems on specific systems.

Okay, but groove u used to be fun…are u getting older? seriously, i am sure those hotfixes are bad for a tr, so what can u suggest that might be “fun” to play around with on this box.  Is a vista beta something to consider? i am just bored with SP2, although love the stability on my real machines. I’d try linux, but i actually want to use the laptop when i am on the road…:)
jigs
ps. can u PLEASE fix my access problem here? i verified but still cant get in after an email change….

I tried to e-mail you with a new password to try but your new e-mail address bounced back to me. What’s the proper e-mail address to use?

Try Mandriva Linux.

I’m about to try it on the T.

And you’ll still be able to use it on the road, comes with open office (save, open, edit Word docs), wireless support, everything you need. And if you want to play should be an easy install to start you off in Linux.

and i am even back with my avatar! thanks grroooveeeooo!

well, i downloaded the “SP3” and what a joke, it was a hacked up cluge of hotfixes and office and buddha knows what else, it was supposed to be a silent install iso, but it kept shouting at me ACTIVATION CODE and u guys know how i am with those number things…

so i just put my retail xp pro sp2 on (i have those numbers memorized) and it worked like a charm…what’s all the fuss here about going from home to pro on a TR3? the only thing that does not work is the mem stick, but i don’t chew that gum anyway (although tips on how to fix that are useful). the camera worked and everything….

maybe the trick is to just upgrade instead of doing a complete install, which i should have done i bet cause i found that trojan after the install that had done all those bad things in the first place…i hope nod32 is serious when it said it deleted it!

cheers
