Yep my camera is also working fine. Ive had my TR3A for almost 3 years and luckily had no problems with the camera. I don’t use it that often now.

I have an optical engineer who did some research on the problem with my motion eye camera on my TR5AP notebooks.  I have 2 of the TR5AP and both motion eye cameras went out on me last month and both were hardly ever used.  The engineer said Sony had problems with their CCD array designs over 2+ years ago and even had a recall on their video camcorders. You guys can search the internet “sony ccd recall”.  He said that all the motion eye cameras use CCD arrays and may have the same faulty design problems.  Sony, of course never mentions this when you talk to support but if everyone here does some research on Sony CCD array, we may be able to get Sony to address this problem at their cost.  I think we have to unite about this and pass this word to other forums.  United We Stand…..

Here’s is one link that explains the CCD array problem.

I have a TR1 and a TR3AP.  The cameras on both work just fine.  I have had both for about 3 years (the TR1 in December 03, and the TR3 in May 04 just under), and I got both used, so they both have been in use more than 3 years.

Maybe I am just lucky, but besides having to replace a worn out battery, they have been tough as nails, and I use the TR3 everyday as my sole computer (technically I traded the TR1 to my mother); I travel to and from school with it everyday.  I don’t put it in a case and I leave it in my car in extreme weather all the time.  I am basically as rough and abusive as can be towards it.  Plus, since I got them used, no warranty.

I just got my TR3AP back from Sony Service with a replacement of my Motion Eye camera! It works again, and was covered by warranty!

Just barely though… I guess I was lucky that it broke in the right time period!

but my TR3AP has crashed (gone black) and I use it everyday.  Did anyone ever find anything out about the recall?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I’d add my motion eye’s death to the list. My motion eye had the ‘white death’ I don´t know since when. I’ve owned this TR5F for almost exactly 2 year and a half. I am very angry with SONY because me as a client do not spect that this kind of things happens to a brand as SONY. I hope this should have a solution, otherwise I will go to SONY here in Venezuela to complain very hard.
Regards to everybody all SONY victims

Well I looked everyone to see if it was a software problem and more than likey it is the hardware.  I called Sony and it’s $279.00 to replace the webcam so I just bought one to plug in for the time being.  It sucks that this happens so frequently.

Add me to the list, please… White death has occurred on my TR1A somewhere around 3 years after purchasing it new.  Worked fine one day, nothing but white the next in Network Smart Capture.  I’ve tried everything (reinstalling software, drivers, massaging the camera and all areas around it) to no avail.  The green light still lights up on the camera, but just white shows on the screen.  :(

I just bought a TR2A and thanks to everyone on this forum, I have everything working except for the Motion Eye Camera. I can’t find any install package to get it working. When I installed the driver for the VCC-U01 I thought it was the motion eye cam and now I can’t get any of the drivers I’ve found for the Motion Eye to install. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
