silicon pop culture!

I am one of the unlucky that has the motion eye camera “white and dead”..I have the chance to replace it, but would like to know if anybody has it working for more than a year (I am calculating a kind of depreciation to see if it worht the investment…$160 :oops: )...the original works for my just a year.

Last I tried mine, it was black-and-dead. It lasted just under 2 years. Maybe a little less. I didn’t use it much. I only noticed it when gr00vy’s cam pic thread popped up again.

Mine is still working fine, i may use it once or so a month. Ive had it for a year and 4 or so months.

Interesting…my estimations are nobody has it working for more than a year and half (more or less)... more experiences welcomed!! :arrow:

the motion eye on my tr2 still works.. :mrgreen: had it since feb 04.

mine stopped working after 1.5 years….

sony tech came by…

not once but twice… and it still doesn’t work. 

had the white screen too. 

now i got a fedex box addressed to san diego sony.

1.5 year seems to be the tragic number…or the date of an announced death ...

mine’s ,too 1.5 year approximate life time

and it was dead in front of me

say i’m taking pic
and then i changed to video mode
and when i changed back to pic again, it just gone..

I dont´t know what´s bothering me the most…get the camera dead or see other people saying “is that a camera…so, take a pic, could you?..no way…anyway, I hate have this little piece of s**t out of service, despite I really don’t need it much..

Two months ago i wrote some lines to this forum about my dead webcam. Sometimes I started Network Smart Capture again, just to have a look for the status of the motion eye…

I WORKS AGAIN!

Okay, it’s not the same quality as before the cam dies… but in general it works…
It’s flickering or black again. but a few seconds later the picture is back.

I dont know whats wrong. Because it has nothing to do with moving the screen (I can move the screen as much as I want and as fast as I want, nothing changes) or turning the motion eye by 180°... There is still the picture on the screen.

Must be a cable-related problem… I can say it’s not a CCD-related problem!!!

Now I want to here some comments of you, esp. from people already opened the case/screen/cam to see whats wrong.

mine has been working for 1.5+ with no problems using network capture 1.2 on a tr3.  I am surprised there are so many problems with the eye, it’s not rocket science.

I just checked mine if it’s still working, and it seems that I’m lucky But my TR5MP is now almost exactly 1 year old, so it’s still below the 1 1/2 years you’ve mentioned… let’s hope for the best

I actually used mine a lot… got lots of friends that have webcams that i chat to on messenger…

An external webcam would be a royal PITA!

gonna look into using the other sony webcam and stealing the ccd…

1.5 years, still a-ok.. i hardly HARDLY use it tho…
