[quote author=“gr00vy0ne”]No, actually you can get the Intel Pentium M to run at full speed. You simply click on the little power plug thingy and change the profile to Power Management Off.

When I do that I get this:

20050217-rmclock2.gif

See, my CPU frequency jumps to 1.7GHz and stays there.

Of course, I don’t recommend this and suggest using the Adaptive setting in the Power Management and letting the OS figure out how much performance you need. It’s actually surprisingly good at ramping up when you need it to. You can right Rightmark CPU Clock Utility with Always on Top so you can watch the frequency change as you’re loading new programs or running your programs. You’ll see that it gives you just the right amount of performance you need while throttling down when you’re idle or doing very non-intensive tasks (like most of the time). Don’t forget that a lot of tasks really don’t require a lot of performance. You’ll see the processor throttle to 600MHz a lot because frankly that’s equivalent to a 1.4GHz Pentium 4 which is way more than needed for most everyday tasks.

My Anti-Virus Alerted me a malicious script. should I run it? it scared the hell out of me.

[quote author=“Archival”][quote author=“gr00vy0ne”]That’s really strange. I can play MP3s in WMP (with visualizations enabled) while doing many things and it never skips. I wonder if you have any rogue processes in the background causing the slowdowns.

So far I have Anti-Virus & Firewall applications.. it shows 63 processes.. and all process seems legit to me.. anyone has this same numbers? Anyway, I stopped Nero, like burning from my external DDRW3, then it went fine it’s fine..  memory is in the 608Mb at highest and it scales down to 587Mb.. then it plays right there..  maybe it’s Nero..

Hmm. How much main memory do you have? 512MB? 1GB? If you only have 512MB then it’s definitely a problem since you’re likely swapping like crazy since you’re out of memory.

Also, how is your DDRW3 being connected to your system? USB2? If so, that may also be part of it since USB is a “dumb interface” and requires higher CPU usage than a smarter protocol such as Firewire.

I have 768MB total right now, from Buffalo, got it retail..  my PCGA-DDRW3 is connected via iLink..  which I deemed fast.. and it is..  So basically having a peak of 670MB will cut it right?

Oh, how weird. Well, at least it’s working now.  :D Maybe it was just being tempermental.

Maybe so..  I found out the culprit.. Nero is in HIGH Process!!!.. geesh..  thank God for ReWrittables..  I restarted, then run the usual stuff and waited till it burns and it’s in the normal..  anyone knows why Nero Does that?  Windows prioritizes it to High automatically without me even knowing it is in high, everythign else is in Normal process, except for WMP which is on above normal.

That really is strange. I use Nero all the time and never have any problems with it in terms of hogging CPU time even when using USB2 or Firewire connections.

Yup really strange..  and it doesn’t exceed that much.. now I restarted again for the 10th times.. and it’s in 280MB.. playing around that MB, no programs running..  do you think it’s the Omegadrivers?  Cuz you mentioned before on some post that you reverted back to the orig ATI drivers?  If you still are do you know where I can get it?  I don’t want to reformat or restore my C again.. just wanted to try the orig drivers I forgot how it was before when I got hte Omegadrive, I am up for a driver change..

My Omega problems only affected the screen draws and not the performance of the system. I’m using the just Omega drivers again but have removed all of the extra crap that came with it and now everything runs fine.

What do you mean extra crap?  maybe I can set it the way yours is and see if it’ll make a difference.  What version are you using right now?  I’m on v2.5.97a..

I’m using the same. I basically removed the ATITool part and keep most of the ATI stuff (hotkey and other services) from loading and it all runs fine.

I just leave the automatic settings (i.e. let application decide) and be done with it. Everything seems to work in that configuration so i have no complaints.

Me I set it all to high.. and it worked fine.. but to not make my system have problems in the future I’ll set it to application preference.. and just set games manually.. overclocking , is still a big no..
