[quote author=“dbs”][quote author=“nox”]Sorry dbs, but are you a novice geek? Come on, don’t tell me you haven’t memorized your keyboard layout now.  So tell me, where does the ^ key come from?

Haha, still, it seems useless. If I can’t find a key in low-light, I just max the TR brightness for a second, find it, and put brightness back down.

~nox

It’s not a matter of memorization, it’s finding the home row in the dark. I often find myself reclining on the couch while using the TR. In a dark room with ones head at a sharp angle to the keyboard it’s an irritation to have to conciously orient to the keybord. Tilting the screen or turning up the brightness seems a half-something solution.

Oh, you wanna know about the little hat? The circumflex is normally placed over a lower-case vowel. I’ve never really looked into it, but I’d wager it comes from the French (who use it widely) given the large number of French words in the English language.

LOL, it’s okay. I was just kidding about the circumeflex, and the light.  Anywho, glad to know you know your symbols! 8)

[quote author=“VAIO Jet”]How about a back lit keyboard with adjustable intensity.  If Sony could squeeze that into the low profile keyboards on their notebooks it would be quite a feat (not to mention how cool it would look).  I am just throwing out alternatives to clip on lights, even if the alternative is only wishful thinking.

Actually I’d thought of that when originating this post. An eletroluminenscent panel the size of a keyboard wouldn’t be cheap and it would use a fair amount of power. I’ll agree it would look cool.

A single high intensity white LED will do the job and have a negligible effect on battery life. It wouldn’t take much to design one right into a system.

Meanwhile, if we want one we pick from the available options.

What about the new G4 and G5 Powerbooks???  They have lit keyboards and they still have great battery-life (for their class).

I never thought about the color thing… That is sorta kooler though.  I’d want a blacklight to highlight the individual letters themselves…  8)

OMG This is some ugly but VERY inspiring design. (Ugly from the front… I hate the fact that they take away from the screen to make it fit in the bottom, thicker and instead all LCD in the front would have looked better.)  I really wanna see how these deal with heat dissipation in such a small form factor… (Its like a tablet with an external keyboard and mouse…  )

Why can’t we see designs like this for PC!!!       ( retorical )

Only from the side…
I still like the, “stump”, design

(Absolutely no expansion/upgradability room in either though…* :x *)

Whatever, they are both good-looking machines… I would love to get (maybe even make  ) something like this for PC.

[quote author=“dbs”][quote author=“Rahul”]I have the one I mentioned and some other one by iogear (the one with a flexible cable)..it has 8 leds in it. But, when it comes to convenience of carrying nothing beats that targus light…since the cable is retractable the entire unit becomes extremely small. Also, it has a protective covering so when ur travelling the unit will not sustain any kind of damage which might be the case with the flex cables.

Is the light directional and sheilded enough to not glare when your head is close to screen level? Almost anything would work when sitting well above the TR.

yup u can direct it in ne way u want…it’s also shielded, but if u ever look at it directly it’s gonna blind u for a fews secs.

I dont have my digital camera with me but if I’m able to locate my bluetooth adapter I’ll take some pics with my cell phone and post them. I’ll also need to look around for the light itself

Nah… it seems to Mickey-moused…

Rolston’s one complaint is that the bezel of the display is so much larger at the bottom, where the device houses the speakers and power supply. Rolston said he wishes that the machine had a little less “chin,” even if it had to be slightly thicker.

Lol it is exactly what i said…

Thanks, Rahul. Don’t let these guys bully you around, they’re way too obsessed with Apple products to be much of a threat. smile
