Here is a little tid bit I learned that I hope might help alot of you guys. There is a web cam on the new EEE PCs that measures 60mm by 8mm. It has a 5 pin usb connector and I believe would be a perfect fit for the Sony TR. I did the mesurements and from what I can tell you won’t even have to cut any plastic out like the other mod on this forum. you might have to change the usb connector though.

I haven’t tested this yet but I have done alot of research on this webcam problem in the TR series. The EEE 701 has a 0.3mp camera and the 900 has a 1.3mp camera. they are exactly the same size. It might be worth it to find some broken EEE PCs.

Here is a picture of the internals of an EEE PC. Notice the webcam at the top center.

Hi,

My tr3a webcam is also died (white screen), while i did not serve more than 4 hours in 3 years!

I recovered last week a webcam from an acer 3100 aspire laptop (produce of bison or logitech, I don’t know actually). It seems possible to put in in the tr3 cam box :  it’s an unique board which dimensions are smaller, there are:
1) a flip flop switch to reverse the cam,
2)a miniusb 5 pins connectors
3)fix focus lens
4)a green led on the right of the lens.

(surprisingly the usb connector on the board cam has 5 pins and the usb cable has only 4 pins)

Apparently, just have to recover the focusable lens on the vaio, move the green led to the left, cut some plastic and fix all with some glue.

I didn’t have the time yet to search the driver to try this webcam, if it works I probably put it in the TR cam box.  I think that the resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels (data found on ebay), thus better than TR. I will tell you all probably next month.

I think that the ideal is to find a laptop cam part who has a flip flop switch, which is not the case of the EEE pc.

Any news on this issue or alternative cameras to install in a PCG-TRM1P ?
That would solve a long standing problem.
Can anyone recommend a camera that works?
Thanks

I’m also anxious to try replacing the motion eye with an alternative cam. Does anyone have info on the current best available webcam to use?
