The PCGA-DDRW3 has been replaced by this VGP-DDRW4. Anyone has it working with the x505?

Yes, it works just fine, only it will have to be plugged into AC, unlike DDRW3 has the i.Link with DC in connection and matches perfectly X505, will not require an extra AC adapter to carry around.

That what i think too, just need some verfication. Can I safely assume that x505 will boot off it too? smile

The DDRW3 is great as AC adapter not required but with it’s iLink Fire/DC combo cable means it won’t work with non-iLink machines.

Btw, I tried hitching my x505sp to a USB2.0 external optical drive. Not only it doesn’t boot, it doesn’t even recognise.

Yes, it will boot from it just fine. DDRW3 can also be used with any other computer as long as it has an i.link connection, that drive has 2 i.Link connections one powered and one that will required an external AC adapter. Just make sure your boot sequence in BIOS is set to i.Link first.

I tried to do it. Unfortunately none of my desktop PCs recognize DDRW3 mad I think adequate driver is needed.
Any idea?
