My Sony TR2a will not charge battery. I bought a new battery and the samething.  The battery light flashes like it is charging.  Also it will not run on the powercord.  It will only run on the battery and when the battery is gone everything is gone.  Help please.  I don’t know who to have repair it or if it even needs repairing.  It may be something I have reset wrong?

Could be the power socket in the laptop they can split / break, can be some resistors on the mainboard too that go.. also I had one that wouldn’t charge once and found the screw in the base at the power connector corner was loose. I tightened it and it was fine. probably not the same as your problem though as it was still working ok on adaptor, just not charging.
