Hi guys,

Nice to have a new forum! kinda miss the old one though.

I was wondering if you manage to get everything working on the S with vista. I have tried and manage to get everything but the brightness working. So I went back to XP for a while. Now I want to make a final transition.

I was following an old thread about but it was inconclusive by the end.

Any of you manage to get an S 100% working with Vista? If so, please give me some poiters. I have an S580.

Best regards,

Lourenco

Unfortunately, I’ve been really busy so I haven’t had a chance to try it. I’m going to give it a shot today once I “TrueImage” my current install. I fear that the S will never be fully compatible since Sony refuses to update the drivers for the hardware buttons and no major hacks will work.

I’ll keep you updated.

Great that you are going to work on that again. First time I tried, searching the net for drivers and stuff, i got stuck with an hibernation that didn’t work properly and the brightness issue.

Now a I have tried a second time, with Sony OS Migration Drivers, and a had the brightness issue and the S1 na S2 key are not working.

I have a feeling that the brighness issue is only going to be solved if a über geek start messing with the sony/nvidia driver by himself. In fact, I dont even know if it is doable.

I am waiting on you diagnosis.

Best regards,

An update. I’m sitting here waiting for my install of Vista to finish. I’ll post updates over the next day or so on what happens. I have found some interesting things in the process as I’ve tried two ways to install it. One, a clean upgrade and two, a clean install. The clean upgrade is essentially a Windows XP barebones install with working Sony drivers…more updates soon.

[UPDATE 1]

Upgrade finished. Regarding Fn keys…

Functional:
1. Brightness controls
2. Standby/Hibernate
3. Scroll Lock
4. S1/S2

Non-functional:
1. Volume Controls
2. Mute

Updating Vista via Windows Update…more updates soon.

I’ve gone back to XP since Vista wouldn’t function with the Fn commands and the rest of the stupidness…

Let us know what you’ve exactly done Groovy. If you get the Volume controls to work correctly I could give it another go.

[UPDATE 2]

I have this lurking suspicion that the audio keys will never work. The reason is that the sound chip used in the earlier VAIO S models is the Analog Devices AD1981B codec. Analog Devices never produced a reference Vista driver (since the chip was designed for XP). So, in a sense it’s not Sony’s fault here since AD is pushing them to use their new products (HD Audio) and they have no reason to go back and produce new Vista drivers.

I’m looking into a method of using the S1/S2 buttons to control the volume levels which might be a nice hack solution.

More updates once I figure this out.

Any more updates?  You’re probably busy with your new iPhone so I understand, but don’t forget about us.
