Hi guys,

I have a serious problem with my laptop.
It tries to load but freezes on booting saying tha the ....win\system32\system file is corrupt etc..

COuld be a virus.

Anyway, I tried the diagnostic utility from seagate for the momentus drives and it says that my hard drive can not be read.

I need to take the hard drive out and check it with another computer.

Is there a service manual available anywhere or a simple disassebly guide for the SZ series laptops?

thank you

I found a way for doing it

You just need to carefully remove the keybord from top first and fold it. You will find the 3 silver screws holding the front silver panel and mouse pad. Beneath this hides the hard drive.

you may need to unscrew also the left corner small screw that holds the left side plastic, to leave ample room in order to lift the hard drive from it’s position.

The hard drive case is mounted on 3 black screws to tha case.  After unscrewing them carefully hold it and disconect the orange fiber connecting cable.  remeber there is a small sticker underneath the black botom sticky plastic cover that holds the SATA connector to the hard drive case. remove it as well to disconnect it.

Tomorrow I’ll do my testing with the hard drive but i doubt if anything good will come out of it.

Ahh.. by the way.. the hard drive’s speed is not 7200 as i though it whould, it’s the SEAGATE momentus 5400, 100GB

Hope I helped.
