I once used a staples generic laptop cleaner towlette on a Sony LCD monitor for a Vaio desktop. It streaked and looked crappy. Is there something I can get special for Sony TX LCD screens? I want to clean it but have it look good too and not damage it…Thanks!

[quote author=“TXUXaficionado”]Is there something I can get special for Sony TX LCD screens?

The best thing for cleaning all screens, lcd, tv, monitors is….
Spit and pollish

Get some soft Kleenex and then spit on your screen and wipe it away.  Spit is a natural de-greaser and doesn’t smear.  and it’s free.  You will land up with perfect results.

And no there is no need to get paranoid about causing a massive superbug bacteria outbreak.  You will not die!

This has been covered in a thread ages ago i seem to remember…  It listed so many expensive magic bullet sollutions that don’t work that well…

Spit and pollish has worked for cleaners for thousands of years.

Rich.

Regular old tissues and spit, eh? hmmm. I’ll give it a shot. This is the kind of topic that should be a sticky. even though it was covered a long while back here (you say), anyone with a new vaio will care how to best keep the screen clean. I did a lot of searches and never saw that solution. One guy did say he used scotch tape to just lift smudges off. I will try both suggestions and post back here. Thanks!

You guys are funny..  I can’t imagine staring at my TX’s screen and thinking my spit coated it.

LOL

a 7-10 bucks investment wouldn’t hurt.  I still have my iKlear..  And I bought that last December ‘05..

I made a mistake and posted the replt below as a new topic…

I am definately gonna give the spit a shot (pardon the pun) on the screen. If it works, hey it works. It wouldn’t bother me to think about it. What does bother me is the crap on my screen now, or the streaks I had on my old lcd screen after using a commercial towette “lcd cleaner.” i just want to get the job done. Do you have one these xbrite screens and have used that thing you talked baout on it? No streaks? btw, cool (Venice Beach…I used to live out in Ojai and went to Venice Beach a few times smile  )

Man i wouldn’t be spitting, nor would i use tissue.

Tissue has been a big no-no with cleaning camera lens for ever because of things that are in tissues which actually scratch the glass.

The better option is to use a clean, freshly laundered t-shirt or cotton hanky. Personally i use an lcd cleaning kit i found cheap at a computer fair, contains a brush with a built in squeezer to blow dust off, a liquid solution and a soft, non-marking cloth to clean it with. Give it a blow with the brush, couple of squirts and then rub it in. After a minute buff it off with the cloth and i’ve got a clean, non-static non-dust attracting surface. It’s designed for LCD’s and guaranteed not to damage and it cost like $8!

Spit might be clean but your screen will smell like stank breath.

What have done so far was try scotch tape and spots and that does work I can say for sure. And I got this cloth from Staples and wiping the screen with that has worked too. I didn’t do the spit thing…and will not as long as these two ways keep working for me.

Sorry for the late reply.. Yes it’s super using iKlear with microfiber cloth.  No streaks on mine..  But that was 14 bucks investment with microfiber at Fry’s Electronics..  Check it out, better yet check out JRR it’s near where you are in NYC.  Yeah, it’s nice and cool here in Venice.  A sudden breeze of cool air..  I love it!  LOL
