UNIQUE custom made Note Book based on the SONY TR series.

Hi,
please to meet you all, first time here, as I see this is a community of TR lovers so this I suppose is the unique place to introduce this. I live on a small island near Spain in the Mediterranean sea called Ibiza where I have a little AV studio(SONY of course) that is used for multimedia and Super8 film and VO stuff.

As I am also a technician I fell in love with the TR a few months ago buying a broken one ending up now having now about 7 !...LOL. Not really just to have them but to rebuild them and making them faster better and more efficient. I just find them amazing and easy to work on and I still think it was one of the best developments of Sony besides the Professional AV department of course.

Anyway when all is in place as I am still waiting for parts I will be posting here the development or check out my preliminary page that will be for all the info about this Unique machine!

Best regards, Gery

Sony TR Alternative Webcam

Here is a little tid bit I learned that I hope might help alot of you guys. There is a web cam on the new EEE PCs that measures 60mm by 8mm. It has a 5 pin usb connector and I believe would be a perfect fit for the Sony TR. I did the mesurements and from what I can tell you won’t even have to cut any plastic out like the other mod on this forum. you might have to change the usb connector though.

I haven’t tested this yet but I have done alot of research on this webcam problem in the TR series. The EEE 701 has a 0.3mp camera and the 900 has a 1.3mp camera. they are exactly the same size. It might be worth it to find some broken EEE PCs.

Here is a picture of the internals of an EEE PC. Notice the webcam at the top center.
Help Please! Home Networking with HP Home Server

So this may be a little off topic, except 3 of the computers in our house are TRs running XP Pro, we have two other computers as well, one runs Vista, the other Media Center 2005.

We are moving into a renovated place and we have Cat 5e cable throughout the house, I am going to be buying an HP Home Server, and would like to use it to run the media throughout our house (I have a slingbox and dvr, but am thinking of setting up the server to replace these).

The question I have is for those that have server experience, what type of challenges am I likely to have using my TRs to connect (through ethernet) to the server, and then connecting the computer to the two TVs (one old, one to be purchased) and accessing the stored videos, music and photos through the server.

I’m not sure if all that people refer to (gigabit switches etc.) are necessary if I’m using older technology like our TRs.

Any advice would be really appreciated, or suggestions on how others have connected to the media on their PCs.

Thanks!

Battery life suddenly shortened after SSD install

After two of those horrible Hitachi hard drives died on me I decided to do the big upgrade and convert my PCG-TR3A to the Toshiba mounting and to install the Samsung 16GB SSD. Thanks to information gained on this forum the conversion was very easy and I found the Samsung 16GB SSD for $150 so I installed it. The performance increase was outstanding and worked much better than I expected but the computer developed a weird problem. After installing the SSD the battery life is now only about 30 minutes instead of about 2 hours when I had the Hitachi drive installed. Do any of you have any ideas about what may have caused this?

BladerRunner is the BEST!

My baby (Tr2A) is up and running again thanks to BladeRunner and his fantastic service! I can’t say enough how pleased I am to have found this site and then to find BladeRunner. Fry’s had quoted me a total of around $900 total to fix my laptop to which I huffed and puffed and walked away sensing that I was being ‘worked’.

BladeRunner sold me a new mainboard, but he did so much more. His posts on this forum supplied clear installation instructions for replacing the board, he included restore disks, a memory card, and a bluetooth hookup. He even shipped a set of magnetized screwdrivers as well!

Thank you so much,
Kathy
