It looks like I will be installing the Linux flavor Xandros onto my TR2 when I make the switch to an SSD drive. I might make it dual boot since there may not be much in way of support for drivers for certain parts of the laptop.

Anyone with experience using Xandros on the TRs?

I have had really excellent luck with Ubuntu (or Xubuntu to be specific) on my TR3A. Just about everything worked right out of the box, only the display needed some manual patching. Even the Suspend & Hibernate functions work fine.

The only thing that still doesn’t work is the Motion Eye camera… But it’s not a big deal since Skype under Linux still doesn’t support video.

The K network manager really works well with the Sony’s built-in wireless, one of my beefs with older distros.

I had to replace the original DVD with one I purchased over Ebay - some of the posts on this board on how to remove the components helped a lot. Even though this laptop is getting a little long in the tooth, I’m starting to think about getting a larger hard drive to extend its life a little longer.

I’m really digging it!

Hi all

I have just installed Fedora Core 6 on my TR5MP. Most things are working, with the exception of sleep, and the touchpad is a bit unresponsive.

Does anyone have some ideal synaptics driver settings to put in my xorg.conf to make it work a bit better?

Thanks

Hey guys,

Yesterday i bought my friend’s PCG-TR2AP laptop. I have not the install cdroms and windows XP was installed on it. However i dont like XP so i formated the hdd and install windows 2000.

So far, i found the drivers for the video card, and wireless and ethernet card.

There are still a big list of “unknown devices” plug to my laptop windows says. Sony (....not so good) support service website doesnt provide the drivers for win2000.

Now my big issue is that it doesnt recognize the USB ports so I cannot use it for my Ipod or my USB Mouse!!

May someone help me out with those PCG-TR2AP drivers for WINDOWS 2000 ???

Thank you for your time,

This is a potential silly question but I’ve seen this done on desktops Where someone will have two operating systems running at the same time and by hitting some Ctrl-whatever combnination keys they switch to the other OS.

Is this theoretically possible on the tr2a with XP and fedora core 4 in different partitions?
